Benefits

The platform screen doors at all 5 stations are aligned with the doors of the train and open and close automatically. They:

  • make it faster to board trains
  • stop items falling onto the tracks
  • help control the climate in the station
  • improve tunnel ventilation.

Using the doors

There are entry markings on the floor to make it easy for you to know where to wait for your train.

  • You do not need to press a button to open the platform screen doors in the station, they will open and close automatically.
  • You also do not need to press a button to open train doors when getting off in Metro Tunnel stations.
  • Flashing lights and sounds will indicate when the doors are opening and closing.
  • Please wait for doors to be fully opened and any passengers onboard to get off the train before you get on.
  • When travelling with children, always hold their hand when boarding to avoid being separated.
  • While the doors are closing do not attempt to get on board the train or to hold the doors open.
  • When the Metro Tunnel opens, not all platform screen doors will be in use, indicated by a red light over the door. Continue down the platform to the next available door.
