UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Ison Road Project

We are building the Ison Road Project in Werribee to provide a vital new link to the Princes Freeway.

As part of the Ison Road project, we’re delivering a new bridge over the Melbourne-Geelong rail line, funded jointly by the Australian and Victorian Governments. This overpass will link to a new 4 lane extension of Ison Road, being delivered by Big Build Roads on behalf of Wyndham City Council.

The project includes:

  • Upgraded Ison Road, Werribee Main Road and Geelong Road/Princes Highway intersection
  • Addition of traffic signals to the new intersection
  • A new roundabout connecting the Princes Freeway city-bound off-ramp to Wests Road, Geelong Road/Princes Highway and Maltby Bypass Service Centre
  • New walking and cycling path connecting to existing paths on Ferntree Drive in King’s Leigh Estate and Geelong Road

Together, these improvements will boost active transport opportunities, enhance connectivity, improve safety and reduce congestion, particularly in Werribee.

The new road will open to drivers, pedestrians and bike riders by the end of 2026 to help meet the area's growing transport needs, with over 29,000 daily journeys on the road expected by 2036.

More projects improving travel around Wyndham

We’re also delivering another 2 projects in the area that will further ease congestion and improve journey reliability.

Construction is underway for the Ballan Road Intersection Upgrade, while planning for the Princes Freeway and Werribee Main Road Interchange Upgrade is ongoing, with construction to commence in early 2027.

As part of the Ison Road Project, we’re also delivering some works early that form part of the future Princes Freeway and Werribee Main Road Interchange Upgrade. Delivering these improvements now helps improve safety and traffic flow sooner, while preparing the road network for the broader upgrade.
