North East Link will finally fix the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network between the Ring Road in Greensborough and an upgraded Eastern Freeway in Bulleen.

But this massive program of work is more than just Victoria’s biggest ever road project. We’re bringing five big projects together change the way people move around Melbourne by road, bus and bike.

Construction on North East Link is already well underway, with our massive early works program realigning the Yarra East main sewer using three mini-TBMs, and work well progressed to relocate more than 34 kilometres of gas water, sewer pipes, drains, and over 96 other utilities to make way for North East Link. We’re also upgrading local sports facilities and fast-tracking construction of the new Bulleen Park Ride – the first piece of the new Eastern Express Busway.

We’ve awarded the contract to build the North East Link Tunnels to Spark, with smaller preparatory works starting towards the end of this year.

The other elements of North East Link will start being taken out to market from 2022, with the timing for detailed design and construction carefully staged so the whole project can open around the same time in 2027/28, bringing all the pieces of North East Link together.
