Melbourne's first dedicated busway

The Eastern Busway from Doncaster towards the city is Melbourne’s first dedicated busway. High-speed bus lanes will pass under the Eastern Freeway interchange ramps at up to 100km an hour, making it quicker and easier to get to and from the city – reducing travel times for more than 6 million express bus trips a year.

Rapid bus lanes

Separated from the freeway from Doncaster to Hoddle Street, with buses travelling at up to 100km an hour.

2 park and rides

Work to build a new park and ride in Bulleen is complete and we'll upgrade Doncaster Park & Ride..

Walking and cycling links

We’re building 10km of new and upgraded walking and cycling paths, as well as bridges and underpasses.

The new Heyington Avenue bridge will improve walking and cycling connections to the Valda Wetlands. In response to community feedback, we’ve improved the bridge design for a shorter, more direct crossing. The existing Koonung Creek Trail underpass at Doncaster Road linking Koonung Creek Reserve to Valda Wetlands will be upgraded for a wider, brighter connection.

We’ve also reduced the width of the freeway at Valda Wetlands and will be building additional walking and cycling connections.

These links are part of the 34km of walking and cycling paths being delivered for the north east on the North East Link tunnels and the M80 Ring Road Completion projects.

Urban Design and Landscape Plans (UDLPs)

Designs for the new Eastern Express Busway are being exhibited for community comment in stages.
