Yan Yean Road Upgrade

Nightworks on Yan Yean Road

Overnight road closures and other changed traffic conditions will be in place on Yan Yean Road, in both directions between Kurrak Road and Bridge Inn Road, from Sunday 14 June to Friday 10 July. We'll work Sundays to Thursdays from 7pm to 6am each night, with occasional works on Fridays and Saturdays as required.

These works will improve the current condition of the road to make it fit for construction traffic and allow us to install safety barriers along the roadside so major construction can begin.

While these works will be disruptive, we’ve scheduled them to take place at night to minimise impacts to traffic using Yan Yean Road. Once these works are complete, some long-term changes to traffic on Yan Yean Road will be in place. However, traffic will continue to travel along the existing Yan Yean Road while the new lanes are built behind barriers.

Traffic holds and traffic management

From 7pm to 9pm each night and 5am to 6am each morning during works, short traffic holds will be in place on sections of Yan Yean Road. While there will be minor traffic delays of 5 minutes, drivers will still be able to travel along Yan Yean Road as normal.

During this time, Doctors Gully Road will also be reduced to one lane near the Yan Yean Road roundabout with traffic management in place continuously from 9.30am Monday 15 June until 3pm Tuesday 30 June.

Road closure

Between 9pm and 5am each night during works, Yan Yean Road will be closed between Kurrak Road and Bridge Inn Road to through traffic. Detours in place via Kurrak Road, Plenty Road and Bridge Inn Road with delays of up to 20 minutes expected.

If your destination is on Yan Yean Road or on a side road accessed from Yan Yean Road, you’ll still be able to get where you’re going using different local access detours.

Access to the Doreen Business Precinct on the corner of Bridge Inn Road and Yan Yean Road will remain accessible via Yellow Brick Road.

Local access

Different detours will be in place to help you get to your destination within the closure area. The detour route you’ll use will depend on what area of Yan Yean Road your destination is.

Long term changes

Once the safety barriers are in place, speeds will be reduced to 60km/h between Kurrak Road and Jorgensen Avenue, and to 40km/h within the school zones at Yarrambat Primary School and Plenty Valley Christian College. There will also be some changes to side streets on Yan Yean Road for approximately 18 months, until late 2027.

Ironbark Road

We’ll close a section of footpath on the eastern side of Yan Yean Road between Ironbark Road and Youngs Road. Pedestrians will need to cross Yan Yean Road using a temporary pedestrian crossing to use the footpath on the western side of the road, before crossing back at the Ironbark Road traffic lights.

Ashley Road

We’ll combine the left and right turn lanes from Ashley Road to Yan Yean Road into one lane to make room for construction works.

Golf Links Drive

We’ll close the right turning lane from Yan Yean Road into Golf Links Drive to make room for construction barriers on the side of the road. Drivers heading to Golf Links Drive will need to detour via turning right into Bannons Lane and using Jeffrey Drive.
