The level crossing at Abbotts Road, Dandenong South was removed by elevating the rail line over the road.
As part of the Cranbourne Line Upgrade, 8km of track was duplicated between Dandenong and Cranbourne, including the rail bridge at Abbotts Road.
The second track means trains can run every 10 minutes on average in the morning peak for passengers travelling from Cranbourne, Lynbrook and Merinda Park stations.
Around 20,000 vehicles passed through the former level crossing, which was located in a busy industrial area, each day.
Planned timeline
The Abbotts Road level crossing was removed in 2018, and the rail bridge duplicated in 2022.
