COMPLETE

Balcombe Road, Mentone

The level crossing at Balcombe Road, Mentone was removed by lowering the rail line into a trench, with the road rebuilt at its existing level.

This coincided with the removal of the nearby level crossings at Park and Charman roads, Cheltenham.

A new Mentone Station was built. The existing heritage-listed station can be found as part of a new ‘heritage bridge’ over the rail line. The new station location integrates with the Mentone Renaissance project.

The project also included more than 3km of walking and cycling paths connecting the Mentone and Cheltenham station precincts, improved lighting, accessibility and car parking.

Planned timeline

The level crossings at Balcombe Road in Mentone and Charman and Park roads in Cheltenham were removed, and new Mentone and Cheltenham stations opened in 2020.
