COMPLETE

Cardinia Road, Pakenham

The level crossing at Cardinia Road, Pakenham was removed by building a road bridge over the rail line.

As part of the project we created 1000 square metres of open space under the road bridge, 300 new car spaces at Cardinia Road Station and over 1km of new and upgraded pedestrian and cycling paths. Additionally, improvements were made to the Henry Street intersection.

More than 23,000 vehicles travelled through the Cardinia Road level crossing each day, where the boom gates were down for up to a third of the morning peak.

Planned Timeline

The Cardinia Road level crossing was removed in December 2020.

The removal of this level crossing will help to create a level crossing free Pakenham Line in 2025.
