Project benefits
We’re connecting the M80 Ring Road to the North East Link tunnels and upgraded Eastern Freeway – taking cars and trucks off local roads.
M80 Ring Road Completion will deliver:
- Dedicated lanes for local trips and express lanes to the North East Link tunnels for better traffic flow
- New free-flowing interchanges at the M80 Ring Road and Grimshaw Street to ease congestion and slash travel times
- Smart technology including overhead electronic signs, coordinated ramp signals, travel time signs, vehicle sensors and CCTV cameras for more reliable journeys and less congestion
- New noise walls to meet a tougher traffic noise standard of 63 decibels during the day, and a quieter 58 decibels at night
- 10km of new and upgraded walking and cycling paths with new bridges, underpasses and crossings to link schools, shops, and public transport
- An upgraded Watsonia Station car park
- Over 4,000 new trees and plants as part of new wetlands and green spaces
Project construction
Major construction is underway to complete the M80 Ring Road at worksites in Watsonia, Watsonia North, Greensborough and Bundoora.
Construction impacts, such as noise, dust and transport disruptions, are an unavoidable part of building major projects.
We properly manage these impacts in line with applicable legislation, policy and guidelines as part of the project’s comprehensive Environmental Management Framework to protect the local community and environment.
We recognise however that some works can be disruptive, and you can call 1800 105 105 or visit the Hub at 17 Watsonia Road, Watsonia if you have any concerns.
