We’re giving local roads back to local people.
The completed M80 Ring Road will take 19,000 cars and trucks a day off Greensborough Road with through traffic passing under Elder Street and Watsonia Road.
Greensborough Road will be rebuilt on both sides of new express lanes for the North East Link Tunnels for quicker, easier local trips to shops, schools and public transport with more than 10km of new and upgraded walking and cycling paths and better connections to Watsonia Station and shops.
Two new landscaped bridges at Watsonia Road and Elder Street will make it easier for locals to get to Watsonia Station, shops and community spaces.
Watsonia Station will get a new car park and better connections for bikes and buses. This will be part of a future UDLP process in late 2025, with opportunity for community feedback on the design.
What’s coming up?
In late July, we’ll start building the foundations for the Elder Street landscaped bridge. We’ll continue to build permanent noise walls and the retaining wall along Greensborough Highway between Nell Street and Watsonia Road, and undertake utilities works on the Watsonia Road landscaped bridge.
Later in 2025, we’ll move Rosanna-bound traffic onto new lanes so we can start making space for the construction of new express lanes to the North East Link tunnels.

Tunnelling takes off
Our two massive Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) will relaunch from our work area near Lower Plenty Road and are on their way to Bulleen. We're getting on with the job with nearly 2km of tunnelling complete and over 14,000 concrete segments laid.
You can track our TBMs via our TBM tracker.
Keeping in touch
We regularly speak to nearby residents and businesses about these works in more detail, including how we’ll be managing any local impacts.
