Regional Rail Revival program delivers better connections

Works have now been completed to deliver upgrades to every regional rail line in Victoria as part of the Regional Rail Revival program.

The $4 billion investment by the Victorian and Australian governments has improved travel accessibility and enabled almost 400 new and extended train services each week across the state.

This includes an extra 135 new weekly services following the Ballarat Line Upgrade, and more than 80 new weekly services for Gippsland passengers since the completion of the Gippsland Line Upgrade in September.

The program has delivered 20 new and upgraded stations, hundreds of kilometres of track and signalling improvements, new and extended stabling facilities, and safety upgrades at more than 150 level crossings. It also included the removal of 2 dangerous and congested level crossings in Geelong, boosting safety and easing congestion.

Regional passengers can now also travel to Bairnsdale, Albury, Shepparton and Warrnambool on modern and reliable VLocity trains thanks to significant upgrades along each line.

The Shepparton Line Upgrade was completed last December, with crews working approximately 22,000 hours during a final construction blitz to complete, test and commission a new signalling system, which will enable the line to support more weekday V/Line services between Shepparton and Melbourne.
