Now that major construction is complete on the South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication, there are some changes to the way you’ll move through the upgraded precincts.
This page provides an overview of road and pedestrian access changes south of Geelong.
Fyans Street
We’ve removed the complex level crossing and roundabout at Fyans Street in South Geelong, extending Fyans Street to Breakwater Road to improve traffic flow and safety.
Changes in the area include:
- no right turn from Fyans Street into Wood Street
- no right turn from Fyans Street into Carr Street, or from Carr Street into Fyans Street
- a two-way entrance and exit at Martin Street.
The shared walking and cycling path in this area will open in September, and will connect to a new pedestrian crossing over Fyans St.
Swanston and Carr streets
There are permanent changes to access at the intersection of Swanston and Carr streets including:
- a new pedestrian island to make it safer for cyclists and pedestrians crossing the road
- one way access travelling straight along Carr Street (from Swanston Street) towards South Geelong Station
- left hand turn only for vehicles turning from Carr Street into Swanston Street.
Station Road
Permanent changes at Station Road include:
- the realignment of the road at the intersection of Marshalltown and Station roads
- a new pedestrian island to provide a safe crossing for pedestrians and cyclists using the new shared walking and cycling path.
The new road alignment will improve safety for pedestrians using the new shared walking and cycling path.
Pedestrian access
Pedestrian access has also been upgraded at level crossings south of Geelong. New pedestrian islands, with connections to walking and cycling paths, have been installed at the following locations:
- Reserve Road
- Barwon Terrace
