We removed the level crossing at Melton Highway, Sydenham by building a road bridge over the rail line.
As part of this project we built new bike lanes and footpaths on the bridge, new paths, vegetation, open space and lighting under and around the bridge, and a new connection between Victoria and Sydenham roads under the bridge.
In the new open space near the old level crossing, the former Melton Highway boom gates have been made into an eye-catching sculpture.
Timeline
In January 2018, the level crossing was removed and the south side of the road bridge opened to cars, pedestrians and cyclists.
The northern side of the road bridge opened to traffic in August 2018. Finishing touches to the 6-lane road bridge and surrounds were completed in October 2018.
