Sunshine Superhub

The West Footscray to Albion Rail Upgrade is the first stage of Melbourne Airport Rail and will also enable the future electrification of the Melton Line. The program of works spans 6km from West Footscray to Albion to untangle this complex rail junction, making way for a rail line to Melbourne Airport.

Turning Sunshine Station into a superhub will increase capacity for more than 1000 trains a day in the future, linking passengers to the Metro Tunnel, regional services and future trains to Melbourne Airport.

The concept designs incorporate features of the Sunshine Station Masterplan, enabling a major refresh of the Sunshine Station precinct and unlocking opportunities for future development.

The Sunshine Superhub will feature:

  • New walking and cycling links creating better community connections
  • New City Place Plaza featuring landscaped open space
  • New station forecourt with open space and landscaping
  • Two new regional platforms and station concourse
  • Additional lifts to improve accessibility and safety to platforms
  • Upgraded station carpark with dedicated pick-up and drop-off zone near station entrance
  • A bicycle parkiteer, providing secure parking for cyclists
  • Bus interchange upgrades
  • Security cameras and improved lighting

We are seeking community feedback on the new designs, featuring elements of the Sunshine Station Masterplan and the amended project boundary. Visit Engage Victoria to have your say.
