We’ll close the Eastern Freeway in both directions between Chandler Highway and Tram Road and reduce lanes from Hoddle Street and Chandler Highway from 10pm, Friday 11 September to 5am, Monday 14 September. During this closure crews we'll:
- lay approximately 11,000 tonnes of asphalt across sections of the Eastern Freeway
- move traffic barriers to open new work areas and switch traffic onto the south side of the freeway between Bulleen and Elgar roads.
- continue building noise walls between Bulleen and Elgar roads
- install new on-road technology and freeway light poles between Hoddle Street and Burke Road.
Delays up to 90 minutes are expected. On-road signage will be in place to guide motorists and commuters through the area.
Detours in place via:
- citybound detour via Tram Road, Doncaster Road, High Street, Studley Park Drive
- Ringwood-bound detour via Earl Street, High Street, Doncaster Road and Springvale Road
- two-way detour via Heidelberg Road, Lower Heidelberg Road, Manningham Road and Tram Road.
* If you are travelling to the city or airport, consider using alternative arterials including the Monash Freeway or the M80.
During this closure, the following ramps will be closed to help ease traffic congestion:
- Hoddle Street Ringwood-bound entry ramp
- Chandler Highway Ringwood-bound entry ramp
- Middleborough Road citybound entry ramp
- Blackburn Road citybound entry ramp
- Springvale Road citybound entry ramps.
To ease traffic congestion, we have put no parking or stopping restrictions along:
- Doncaster Road in both directions between Burke Road and Cityview Road
- Heidelberg Road between Lowther Street and Yaralee Street
- High Street prior to Valerie/High Street/ Harp Road intersection.
We’ll also reduce lanes onto the Eastern Freeway from Alexander Parade and Hoddle Street and close off some right-hand turns:
*No right turn onto Rose Street and Frederick Street from Doncaster Road.
*No left turn from Hoddle Street onto Eastern Freeway Ringwood-bound entry ramp.
Thompsons Road will remain closed between Bulleen Road and Thompsons Road Ringwood-bound entry ramp.
Northbound detour via:
- Bulleen Road and Manningham Road.
Southbound Detour via:
- Bulleen Road, Doncaster Road, High Street and Manningham Road.
During this weekend closure we'll close Winfield Road at Doncaster Road from to complete drainage works.
Detours in place via Leicester Street or Abbott Street.
