We’re closing the Eastern Freeway in both directions between Doncaster and Middleborough roads from 10pm, Wednesday 7 January to 5am, Monday 12 January to safely demolish the existing Doncaster Road interchange bridge and install high voltage cables under the freeway. There will also be no parking or stopping along Doncaster Road in both directions between Doncaster interchange and Wetherby Road.
During works, the following freeway ramps will be closed to help ease traffic congestion:
- Chandler Highway Ringwood-bound entry ramp
- Thompsons Road Ringwood-bound entry ramp
- Bulleen Road citybound exit ramp
- Springvale Road citybound entry ramp
- Blackburn Road citybound entry ramp
Right-turn bans will be in place at key intersections on Doncaster Road to help keep traffic moving:
- Doncaster Road into Rose Street
- Doncaster Road into Elgar Road
- Doncaster Road into Tram Road
- Doncaster Road into Frederick Street
- Doncaster Road into Victoria Street
- Victoria Street into Doncaster Road
- Wetherby Road into Doncaster Road
Significant delays of up to 90 minutes are expected during this closure, with motorists encouraged to plan ahead and avoid the area.
Motorists will also be allowed to use the bus lanes along Doncaster Road in both directions between the Doncaster interchange and Wetherby Road.
On road and digital signage will be in place to guide motorists and commuters through the area, with detours in place.
