Ballan Station has been upgraded as part of the Ballarat Line Upgrade.

The upgraded station is more accessible and features improved amenities, to cater to Ballan’s growing population.

Passengers are finding it easier to get between platforms and around the station, with lifts and ramps available for people with mobility aids or prams.

The upgrade included rebuilding the northern car park and adding a new car park on the southern side, giving passengers improved bus bays, bike parking, CCTV and lighting.

The upgraded station features:

  • an additional platform
  • an accessible pedestrian overpass linking the two platforms
  • improvements to the station’s existing car park and bus bay layout
  • a car park with a drop-off zone on the south side of the station
  • secure bicycle storage facilities
  • improved security, lighting and landscaping.

Ballan Station passengers are benefitting from 100 extra services per week as part of a timetable change that started Sunday 31 January 2021, made possible by the completion of the Ballarat Line Upgrade.

Community feedback

Before developing final designs for the upgrade, we asked the local community what was important to them about the station. This feedback helped shape plans for the project.

People told us they valued safe and easy access for all passengers, maintaining the station’s heritage character, and improving safety and security.

We also asked the community for feedback on tree planting, landscaping and heritage at the station.
