We’ve constructed a new train stabling facility at Maddingley to deliver more frequent and reliable services on the Ballarat Line.
The new stabling facility was built alongside the rail line in Maddingley, just south of the Kerrs Rd level crossing, to house more trains and enable the train stabling at Bacchus Marsh to be removed.
The new facility has allowed more train services on the Ballarat Line that began from Sunday 31 January 2021, giving passengers more options to get where they need to go.
Project benefits
The new Maddingley train stabling facility included new stabling tracks to house 6 three-carriage VLocity trains overnight.
Works included:
- a new facility with 3 kilometres of stabling tracks
- operations and staff amenities building
- a utilities and storage building
- staff car park
- security fencing
- lighting, CCTV and footpaths for driver access.
About train stabling
Stabling is where trains are parked while not in operation. While the trains are in the facility, they are cleaned internally and prepared for the next day’s operation.
A train stabling facility generally consists of:
- a fenced, open air site
- train tracks
- connections to the main train line
- signalling and communication systems
- CCTV and lighting
- access roads and walkways to the facilities.
