The level crossing at Cherry Street, Werribee was removed in March 2021 by building a road bridge over the rail line, connecting Tarneit Road and Princes Highway.
As part of the project the intersections at Wattle Avenue and Princes Highway, and Tarneit Road and Railway Avenue were upgraded and signalised.
Removing the level crossing has improved safety and provided more consistent travel times.
A well-lit pedestrian and cyclist underpass near the old Cherry Street level crossing site also opened in March 2021, safely connecting pedestrians and cyclists to homes and local shops on both sides of the rail line.
