The level crossing at Buckley Street, Essendon was removed by building a road underpass beneath the rail line. We also built new service roads to maintain local access.
Buckley Street is one of the key arterial roads in Melbourne’s inner north west, connecting Keilor and Avondale Heights in the west with Mt Alexander Road in the east.
The boom gates were down for up to 78 minutes of the morning peak, impacting the 11,000 vehicles that used the road each day.
Planned timeline
The Buckley Street level crossing was removed in 2018.
