The level crossing at Centre Road, Bentleigh was removed by lowering the rail line into a trench.
It was removed at the same time as the level crossings at North Road, Ormond and McKinnon Road, McKinnon.
New stations were built at Bentleigh, Mckinnon and Ormond. The new stations are safer, more user friendly and fully accessible, with lifts, ramps and stairs down to platforms below ground level in the new rail cutting.
These level crossings were some of Melbourne's worst, with boom gates down for up to 45 minutes of the morning peak.
The North Road, McKinnon Road and Centre Road level crossings were removed, and the new stations opened in 2016.
