The Eastern Freeway Upgrades has been through an extensive planning and approvals process.
In addition to overhauling one of Melbourne’s busiest freeways, the project will connect the upgraded Eastern Freeway with the new North East Link tunnels in Bulleen and a completed Ring Road in Greensborough.
To set consistent design and construction standards for these 3 city-shaping projects, initial planning approvals for North East Link, the M80 Ring Road Completion and the Eastern Freeway Upgrades were completed together.
Dedicated teams of builders will now deliver the Eastern Freeway Upgrades in 3 stages, with further approvals for more detailed project designs and construction plans.
A delivery partner has been appointed for the first part of the Eastern Freeway Upgrades from Burke to Tram roads.
We exhibited project designs in October 2023 for this first part to help refine local elements including new and upgraded walking and cycling paths and improvements to how local people will move about.
We’re working through feedback from the local community now, ready for major works to get underway early next year.
