Bridge beams the size of trams installed at Whitehorse Road
Thirteen locally-manufactured concrete beams have been lifted into place, forming the structure of a temporary bridge being built in Whitehorse Road as part of Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East construction.
The temporary bridging structure will allow you to continue to use Whitehorse Road while we build the new SRL East station below ground from 2026.
The just over 28m-long beams were constructed by local pre-cast concrete manufacturer Westkon in Melton, supporting local jobs.
SRL East in Box Hill will provide a convenient cross-suburb connection to jobs, health services and study opportunities in one of Melbourne’s fastest growing education and medical centres, as well as linking to the Belgrave/Lilydale line.
SRL East will help local students travel to Monash University in just 10 minutes.
Box Hill’s new underground station will open by 2035, with safe, traffic-free access between SRL and the existing metro train station, buses and the 109 tram. A new green boulevard and public space will be created along Whitehorse Road.
