Melbourne Airport Rail takes off with stage 2 works

As part of Melbourne Airport Rail Stage 2, a new rail flyover will be built at Albion to take airport trains over Ballarat Road and onto new tracks running alongside the freight line from Albion to Jacana.
The flyover will be 17m high and 1.1km long and will be built separate from the new Albion Station. Albion locals will be one stop from connecting to airport rail services at Sunshine Station.
It will include a pedestrian and cycling overpass built adjacent to the flyover, linking directly into the HV McKay Memorial Gardens and other local active transport connections.
Planned timeline
Site investigations for Melbourne Airport Rail Stage 2 will start this year, with major construction kicking off in 2028. The project will be complete in 2031.
