Recycled composite dunnage

Dunnage is a type of packaging used to protect cargo during transport and storage, and is typically made from concrete or wood.

We used 100% recycled dunnage to store the 4000 pieces of track form destined for the Metro Tunnel. This precious cargo is the custom-built, precast concrete panels that sit under the steel rail throughout the twin 9km tunnels.

We used 500 pieces of recycled dunnage, made from a 50/50 mix of post-industrial timber and post-consumer plastic waste. The wood was sourced from untreated wood waste from Australian sawmills, and the plastics from household waste such as food containers, and milk and shampoo bottles.

By using recycled dunnage, we diverted around 26 tonnes of plastic and wood waste from landfill.
