Crushed, fired, melted down and reimagined

Eight artists have turned archaeological fragments uncovered from the Metro Tunnel dig site behind the Young & Jackson pub, into new works showing at Unearthed at Craft Victoria this October. These fragments, some of many thousands discovered during the dig, were not significant enough to be retained for heritage purposes so they are, in essence, ‘discards’.

This series of photographs by Henry Trumble captures the artists at work in their studios: Ruby Aitchison, Claire McArdle, Jack Balfour, Juan Castro, Dale Hardiman, Jenna Lee, Tantri Mustika and Iluka Sax-Williams.
