About the artwork
With As Camp as Christmas, The Huxleys continue their escalating escapist trip beyond the yellow brick road. Celebrating surrealism and exaggerated glamour, this work brings an androgynous spectacle to the merriment of Christmas.
The Huxleys were determined to make the Yuletide gay. They wanted to bring some joy, humour and queer love to the city. Christmas can so often be focused around the Northern Hemisphere and the The Huxleys wanted to instead celebrate the glory and beauty of Australian flora and fauna. They created costumes evoking an Australian Christmas wonderland.
If you’ve ever wanted to see 2 crocs sharing a prawn cocktail, glittery gumnut babies and kissing emus – then you are in the right place.

About the artists
The Huxleys are a dynamic duo of cataclysmic proportions who present a visual assault of sparkle, surrealism and the absurd. Working across visual art, performance and fashion, their luminescent art traverses the classifications of photography, costume and film. Saturating their practice with a glamorous, androgynous freedom they aim to bring some escapism and magic to everyday life.
