The Shepparton Line Upgrade will deliver faster and more frequent services, and will allow modern VLocity trains to travel to and from Shepparton for the first time
The Shepparton Line Upgrade will be delivered in three stages.
Stage 1, which is now complete, included:
Stage 2, which is underway, includes:
Stage 3 includes:
The Shepparton Line Upgrade will give passengers more reliable services, faster journeys and more modern trains and create 600 jobs.
The stabling upgrade at Shepparton Station as part of Stage 1 enabled 10 extra weekly services on the Shepparton line, which was fast-tracked by nearly 12 months.
This stage also delivered 29 additional coach services per week between Seymour and Shepparton in May 2018, to improve transport connections in the region.
Stage 2 of the Shepparton Line Upgrade will provide the infrastructure required for VLocity trains to run to Shepparton for the first time, improving service reliability and providing passengers with more comfortable journeys.
This includes a new stabling facility to house the trains as well as level crossing upgrades between Donnybrook and Shepparton to ensure they're compatible with VLocity trains and to boost safety for road users and train passengers.
The crossing loop extension will improve service reliability by giving trains more opportunities to pass each other.
Stage 3 of the Shepparton Line Upgrade will deliver signalling upgrades which will enable nine return services on weekdays for Shepparton, Mooroopna, Murchison East and Nagambie.
It will include track speed upgrades between Seymour and Shepparton to enable trains to travel faster.
The new stabling facility being built north of Shepparton to house modern and reliable VLocity trains will be expanded, to accommodate even more trains and enable more services.
The Murchison East crossing loop will also be extended by an additional 1.1km, to enable a 1200m freight train and two six-car VLocity trains to pass each other, making services more reliable.
We have appointed Coleman Rail in partnership with KBR to deliver Stage 2 of the Shepparton Line Upgrade.
Work is underway and is targeted for completion in late 2022.
The contractor delivering Stage 2 of the project – Coleman Rail and KBR, as part of an alliance with Rail Projects Victoria and V/Line – will deliver the expanded loop and stabling facility for Stage 3.
A delivery contractor for the track and signalling upgrades will be confirmed in the coming months, subject to procurement, planning and environmental approvals.
Stage 3 of the Shepparton Line Upgrade is targeted for completion in late 2023.
During 2020 we sought feedback from the community on the proposed train stabling facility via an online survey on the Engage Victoria website.
Phone-in information sessions were also available for individuals who wanted to speak directly with a member of the project team and ask questions.
A report detailing the feedback received during consultation will be published soon.
Rail Projects Victoria is responsible for the planning and delivery of the project on behalf of the Victorian Government.
We will keep passengers and the community updated as the project progresses via information sessions, letterbox drops, e-newsletters, advertising, website updates, social media and station pop-ups.
