SRL will make it easier to visit the heart of vibrant Box Hill and its growing education and health services, including Box Hill Institute and Box Hill Hospital.

The new underground station will be surrounded by new and upgraded plazas, and a new linear park on Whitehorse Road. Tunnelling is underway, with trains taking passengers in 2035.

The station layout at Box Hill will incorporate a 94m long platform with escalators in the middle of the platform.

The station will also include buildings to accommodate ticketing and customer facilities and potential retail tenancies, operational equipment and rail systems, and essential emergency and safety infrastructure.

Changing between SRL and metro trains, trams and buses at Box Hill will all be done without having to cross traffic – making it safe, easy and quick.

The underground SRL station will open to Main and Market streets to the south and Whitehorse Road to the north, with a pedestrian promenade linking SRL and Whitehorse Road to Box Hill Gardens.

SRLA is working with the Department of Transport and Planning to make the connection between the underground SRL station and metro station in Box Hill as convenient and efficient as possible, so passengers don't have to touch on and touch off.

There will be traffic-free connections to buses and a new two-track tram terminus will make catching the 109 more reliable. Box Hill will also have 500 bike parking spaces as well as new cycling paths and footpaths. Around 400 of these will be underground and located in the nearby service building and about another 100 will be located in other nearby areas in the precinct.

The new station platform will sit around 23m below ground level and be accessible by lifts and escalators.
