About the artwork
'This design features several iconic parts of the Royal Botanic Gardens including the arid (cactus) garden, central & oak lawns, children’s garden, lakes, fern gully and views of Government House and the city skyline, as well as some uniquely Australian flora & fauna. My intention is for the viewer to be drawn into the image through the use of different perspectives such as the birds-eye view of the picnic and rainforest areas. I also wanted to give a sense of the seasons and different times of day through the changes in colour and foliage from left to right, as a well as a sense of movement throughout the scene.
I’ve spent many hours enjoying and exploring the Botanic Gardens over the years. I love that they are a place to gather together and are accessible to everyone. I hope people can gain a sense of peacefulness when they look at this artwork.'
