Major construction at Town Hall Station is complete.

Current works
Works within the Town Hall Station precinct include finishing works for station entrance construction and surface reinstatement at the Federation Square site.
Town Hall Station’s Federation Square entrance will open in late 2026.
Federation Square surface reinstatement works
At times, sections of Federation Square will be closed between Flinders Street and the Main Square to safely do final surface reinstatement works.
Traffic and transport impacts
The St Kilda Road eastern pedestrian crossing between Federation Square and St Paul’s Cathedral is closed and will reopen in October 2026.
Other works in the area
Multi-storey developments are under construction above Town Hall and State Library stations. These developments are not part of the Metro Tunnel Project.
Town Hall and State Library stations will remain open while these developments are built.
