Current works
Works within the Town Hall Station precinct include:
- Station entrance construction and underground build-out works at the Federation Square site.
- Awning reinstatement preparatory works at 244 Flinders Street.
- Reinstatement works to Flinders Street eastbound.
St Kilda Road eastern footpath closure
St Kilda Road eastern footpath is closed between Flinders Street and the Fed Square/Swanston St #13 tram stop from Tuesday 24 March until September 2026. The closure of the footpath will facilitate:
- Utility works.
- Canopy and passenger lift works.
- Kerb and pavement reinstatement works.
- The pedestrian crossing between St Paul’s Cathedral and Fed Square is also closed.
Please note:
- There are no impacts to cars or bicycles
- The pedestrian crossing between Flinders Street Station and Fed Square is not impacted.

Traffic and transport impacts
Ongoing
- Flinders Street eastbound lanes closed between Swanston and Degraves streets.
- Flinders Street westbound lanes closed between Swanston and Elizabeth streets.
- Left turning lane from St Kilda Road to Flinders Street closed.

Other works in the area
Multi-storey developments are planned to be built above Town Hall and State Library stations.
These developments are not part of the Metro Tunnel Project.
