Construction snapshot for June 2024

Construction works within the Town Hall Station precinct during June 2024 include:

  • station entrance construction within the City Square, Flinders Quarter and Federation Square sites
  • Flinders Street drainage works
  • Campbell Arcade restoration works including fit-out of the underground passenger connection to Flinders Street Station
  • lift installations within the Degraves Subway at Flinders Street Station
  • removal of site sheds and gantries
  • installation of an underground stormwater tank on Swanston Street
  • water main renewal works on Swanston Street to be completed by Greater Western Water
  • train testing through the tunnel.

Traffic and transport impacts

  • Until September 2024, a section of the Swanston Street western footpath will be closed at the Flinders Quarter site frontage between Young and Jackson and the Nicholas Building. Pedestrians will detour to the Swanston Street eastern footpath, or via Degraves Street and Flinders Lane.

Ongoing

  • Flinders Street eastbound lanes closed between Swanston and Elizabeth streets.
  • Flinders Street southern footpath adjacent to the Federation Square site closed, with pedestrian diversions in place through Federation Square.
  • Left turning lane from St Kilda Road to Flinders Street closed.
  • Campbell Arcade closed.
  • Degraves Subway closed.
  • Temporary holding of traffic on Flinders Lane, Swanston, and Collins streets for up to 3 minutes for deliveries.
  • Ongoing use of boom gate and swing gate controls to pedestrian traffic on Swanston and Collins streets.
  • Intermittent stopping of pedestrians on the corner of Swanston Street and Flinders Lane.
  • Concrete trucks will intermittently park in the loading bay on Collins Street, adjacent to the City Square site for up to 30 minutes.
