Works to construct the Metro Tunnel’s western entrance in Kensington are nearing completion.

Construction snapshot for February to March 2024

During February and March 2024, works within the Kensington precinct will include:

  • public space works
  • egress building testing and commissioning
  • rail tunnel testing and commissioning
  • out of hours use of the 5-39 Hobsons Road project support site
  • 24-hour rail maintenance works.

Traffic and transport impacts


  • To ensure the safety of road users and pedestrians, the southern pedestrians, the southern pedestrian footpath and approximately 11 on street parking spaces will be temporarily closed on Childers Street.


  • Construction vehicles will continue to access the tunnels via the construction gate in the wall opening near the west end of Childers Street, close to Kensington Road.
  • During February and March, the Hobsons Road laydown site and facilities will intermittently be in use during normal construction hours and some out of hour works.
  • Traffic controllers will be present on Childers Street near the corner of Kensington Road and Childers Street to maintain vehicle movements and ensure the safe delivery and removal of materials.
  • To support the 24-hour rail works from Friday 9 February to Sunday 11 February, there will be reduced parking on Childers Street. Accessible parking will remain near South Kensington Station.
