La Trobe Street closure

Back to Newsfeed

The La Trobe Street eastbound lane between Elizabeth Street and Swanston Street will close from 4 September for up to 12 months as work on State Library Station continues.

Detours will be in place for vehicles and cyclists (see map below), while local traffic can access the Melbourne Central carpark and the Aurora building via La Trobe Street, with the help of traffic controllers.

Pedestrian access will be maintained and trams will continue to run along La Trobe Street.

The year-long closure is needed so work can continue without interruption during a critical period of construction on the new Metro Tunnel station.
